Sonder is pleased to announce that, in partnership with the Québec government, we will be opening a hub office in Montreal, where we already have 120 employees and plans to bring on as many as 700 more over five years. Roles we are hiring for include engineering, data science, real estate, finance and more. Sonder co-founder and vice president of real estate, Martin Picard, has returned to Montreal to lead the Canadian office. A CAD$30 million loan agreement has been concluded with the Québec government through Investissement Québec to make our new investment in Montreal possible.
“We are extremely grateful for the Government of Québec’s contribution and partnership to open our hub office in Montreal where Sonder was first established. We are excited to tap into Québec’s technology ecosystem to continue to innovate globally with plans to create hundreds of quality jobs,” said Francis Davidson, co-founder and CEO of Sonder.
Founded in 2014, Sonder has always maintained a significant presence in Québec. In addition to 120 employees, Sonder now has four hotels in Montreal, including the Lofts Guerin in the Plateau Mont-Royal area – with our fourth opening this month. In addition to job growth and innovation, Sonder is also focused on establishing long-lasting partnerships with local stakeholders to contribute to Sonder’s ongoing international expansion. Sonder is currently a member of many Montreal-based organizations, including Tourisme Montréal, the Hotel Association of Greater Montreal, the Québec Hotel Association and the Chamber of commerce of Metropolitan Montreal.
“We want to build on this momentum and continue our growth while contributing to the revitalization of Québec and Montreal’s economies,” said Martin Picard, co-founder and vice president of real estate. “We plan on using Montreal as a central base to continue expanding our presence around the world.”
Despite the pandemic, Sonder has continued its expansion in recent months and announced a round of financing of more than $170 million USD in collaboration with the Montreal-based fund iNovia. Sonder has also been supported by BDC Capital, iNovia Capital, Real Ventures and ScaleUP Ventures. With approximately 5,000 spaces in over 35 cities and 7 countries, we look forward to continuing to grow with Montreal as a core part of our business
