29 Days of Love is a love letter to affection in all its forms. From solo romancers and freshly bloomed couples to growing families and lifelong friends — February is for all the lovers. This month at Sonder, we’re talking all things love and travel with some of our special guests.
Ari and Yubyn are a married couple based in LA, sharing their life and culture on TikTok. Ari, who’s Mexican, and Yubyn, who’s Korean, both immigrated to the USA where they met back in 2020 through a dating app. Their first date was on the beach so where better to reminisce on their relationship than Woods Cove, Laguna Beach? We chatted with the pair about love languages, travel memories, and tricks to caring for a partner on the road.
What’s your favorite travel memory together?
Our favorite travel memory together is definitely when we went to Seattle for our honeymoon almost 4 years ago. It was our first time traveling to Washington and we loved every part of it. The city had so much to offer and it was a magical time together. Seattle is still to this day our favorite travel destination in the USA!
What are each of your love languages?
Yubyn: My love languages are acts of service and quality time. I feel very special and loved anytime Ari cooks delicious meals for me since it’s something she loves doing. She does it with a lot of care and passion which I’m always grateful for.
Ari: My love languages on the other hand are physical touch and words of affirmation. I feel the happiest and most loved when we’re cuddled up watching a movie together. I love having deep and long conversations frequently where we can be honest about how we’re doing and feeling lately.
How do you care for one another when you’re on the road together?
When we’re on the road together, Yubyn usually takes care of picking out our outfits and making sure we bring essentials like our sunscreen, skincare, etc. Ari will handle the itinerary for things to do, places to eat, and sightseeing. This dynamic is what truly works for us and we love it. We do travel a lot so helping each other out is how we assure we’ll have a great time!
How do you unwind after returning from a trip?
A&Y: We love to travel. After coming back home from traveling, we usually take a full rest first. We’ll spend some time cleaning our house, having time with our cats, and dealing with anything we missed. When we have a meal or when we go to bed, we talk about how fun it was, how much we already miss it, or our next destinations. Sharing with each other the pictures and videos we each took leaves us wanting to travel again as soon as possible.
One more thing… What’s more romantic: sunrise or sunset?
A&Y: Sunset brings us back to our first date in Redondo Beach, sitting on the sand and having a long conversation to get to know each other. It reminds us of when we first fell in love.
