Giving back in every city we call home

Sonder joins Mayor Kennedy Stewart to help refurbish non-market housing in Vancouver B.C.

From couches and bed frames to shelving and table tops, dozens of local residents in Vancouver B.C. will soon enjoy upgraded furnishings and re-freshed living spaces. On Thursday, Mayor Kennedy Stewart and Sonder celebrated the donation of over $100,000 worth of new furniture to the City’s Non-Market Housing Operations portfolio. The City’s non-market housing ensures singles, couples, families, persons with disabilities, and seniors have safe, affordable places to live in Vancouver. When Sonder joins a community, we believe it’s our mission to support the city’s changing needs and have a positive impact on our neighbors.

“As a hospitality company that looks forward to expanding in Vancouver, it’s our responsibility to make thoughtful decisions and grow in a way that gives back to the community” said Emma Cahalane, General Manager of Sonder Vancouver. “We work shoulder to shoulder with cities to identify opportunities that will help improve the lives of locals?—?this furniture donation is just the beginning of Sonder’s ongoing commitment to the City of Vancouver.”

Sonder’s model of flexible accommodations helps cities grapple with the evolving needs of local residents and visitors in a dynamic modern economy. In addition to working with cities on policy initiatives to address challenges related to housing, lodging and blight eradication, Sonder forms partnerships with local government and community groups who benefit as the company expands. Last year, Sonder donated over $100,000 worth of supplies, furniture and renovations to help fully refurbish ten transitional housing shelters in the City of New Orleans.

“We’re grateful for Sonder’s generous donation which means that residents living in the City’s Non-Market Housing buildings?—?which provide singles, couples, families, persons with disabilities and seniors with safe, affordable housing in Vancouver?—?will have access to an additional source of free, high quality furniture,” said Mayor Kennedy Stewart, City of Vancouver.

Since being founded in Montreal in 2012, Sonder has expanded across four countries and twenty-two cities. And in every city we call home, we’ll keep giving back.
