Meet up with Canadian Hip-Hop Producer Nicholas Craven at Sonder Battery Park in New York City.
Share something that inspired you during your recent Sonder stay?
Nicholas Craven: We had beautiful weather during our stay and to have a view looking out upon Battery Park, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Financial District, while I was making beats, definitely stimulated my creativity.
Something you learned while traveling?
Nicholas Craven: To triple-check my equipment list before leaving because I always forget one piece of audio gear or another. This time it was a microphone pop filter, I had to improvise on my first night with a clothes hanger and a stocking but I managed to purchase a real one during my stay.
Recommend a fave arts / creative hub during your recent stay in NYC?
Nicholas Craven: We had a show at SOB‘s (Sounds Of Brazil) in SoHo which is a legendary New York City venue that I’ve known about for years. A huge crowd showed up and we met tons of great people who showed their love and support for our music. We also got a chance to go to The Comedy Cellar on Monday night and saw multiple terrific stand-up comedians. There’s nothing like good unadulterated NYC style improv.
Share how you like to discover and explore new cities?
Nicholas Craven: My usual way to discover new cities and their neighborhoods is by visiting as many vinyl record stores as possible. I specialize in sample-based music so collecting various records from around the world is not only part of my creative process, but it exposes me to other cultures and I can find new places to visit or restaurants to try on my way to these stores.
