Following Sonder’s recent launch in Madrid, we’re excited to expand our footprint in Spain to the beautiful city of Barcelona. With three hotels now open, guests can stay in one of our 40+ units in the beautiful Gracia and L’Eixample neighborhoods. We are delighted to have partnered with more than a dozen of Spanish-based artists through a collaboration with a local gallery, Miscelanea.
“We are delighted to launch operations in Barcelona, a vibrant destination for travelers eager to enjoy the city,” shared Leda Zanlungo, Sonder’s General Manager of Barcelona. “We’ve been thrilled to see the positive guest response to our first location in Spain with the launch of Madrid earlier this year, and are looking forward to introducing Sonder’s unique hospitality model to Barcelona this month.”
All three buildings are located in desirable parts of the city, and each has its own charming characteristics. The renowned Le Palacete, a historical building, built in 1922, has a lush courtyard and unique architecture, including stone arches and balusters. La Casa del Sol, a hotel built in 1854 that’s been fully renovated, has a rooftop with great views of the famous Plaça del Sol. The rooms at La Casa del Sol have a number of rooms with floor-to-ceiling arched windows for natural light and exposed ceiling beams. The third location is the Vasanta Hotel Boutique, a corner property located in L’Eixample with views of Casa Calvet, one of the first buildings of Antonio Gaudi.
“At such a difficult time for the tourism sector, we are delighted to welcome to Barcelona projects that contribute to the local economy, that are committed to the sustainability of the tourism sector, and that offer a quality experience to people who want to know, live and enjoy our city”, says Xavier Marcé, Councillor for Tourism and Creative Industries of Barcelona City Council.
We look forward to welcoming guests at all three buildings and in our new location in Madrid. Sonder’s growth in Spain is part of our broader expansion strategy across Europe, where we currently have spaces in cities like London, Rome, Dublin, and Edinburgh.
“Our entrance in Barcelona and Madrid across four locations will generate new jobs and tourism, and comes at a time when travel demand is expected to return later this year, explains Guillermo Gual, General Manager of Sonder in Madrid. “With local teams on the ground in every city we operate in, we are focused on contributing to the community, including partnering with nearby businesses.”
