We’re thrilled to share that Sonder is being joined by a team of experienced leaders who have spent their careers helping innovative companies scale and disrupt age-old sectors.
Looking forward to a year of rapid growth, we’re excited to announce our first Chief Financial Officer, Sanjay Banker, who was most recently a Partner at TPG Growth and previously a senior executive at Bain Capital and McKinsey & Company. Sanjay brings over 20 years of experience working closely with outstanding management teams to help companies reach their full potential. Over his career, he’s served on nine boards and completed 15 investments, representing over $4 billion of invested equity capital. As CFO, Sanjay will focus on helping Sonder’s leadership team build on its success, and our mission to become an iconic hospitality brand.

In recent weeks, Sonder has added several new members to its executive leadership team including a VP of Revenue, VP of People and General Counsel. As Sonder’s new VP of revenue, Shruti Challa brings over a decade of experience founding companies and generating demand for leading experience and travel brands, including Groupon and Rocket Travel a subsidiary of Booking.com.Melissa Lightbody, Sonder’s VP of People, joins the company after over 20 years spent building teams across sectors and internationally, from small hyper-growth startups to worldwide corporate powerhouses such as Vituity, MZ, Trulia and Flextronics.
Phil Rothenberg joins Sonder as General Counsel after over seven years at Tesla where he served as VP of Legal, leading Tesla’s legal efforts to expand into important markets like China and helping the company raise multiple rounds of post-IPO security offerings amounting to roughly $10 billion in new capital. Prior to that Phil was an Attorney-Advisor at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University.
Sonder is always seeking new team members who are up to the challenge of reinventing hospitality. In addition to expanding rapidly across two continents, the company’s workforce more than doubled in 2018, with plans to do the same in 2019.
