Sonder survey reveals summer travel is heating up and pandemic travel trends are here to stay

The pandemic forced us to adapt in many ways – including the way we travel. The digital nomad lifestyle, long-term vacations, and the revamp of business travel are here to stay and this summer, the travel frenzy is expected to keep on growing.

It’s no secret that Americans are more eager to travel in 2022 than ever before and are already packing their bags this summer for a chance to get away and unwind. In a recent survey we conducted in partnership with Ipsos, we found that 72% of Americans say they have personal travel plans this year, up 10 points since July 2021. And right now, it’s never been easier to explore new cultures, discover hidden treasures, and travel to places that were once considered out of reach.

Our survey results also revealed that Americans are embracing the flexibility of virtual work in order to have a variety of new experiences, and who can blame them? For these kinds of travelers, many of our Sonder spaces across the globe – from a charming balcony room in a leafy Parisian courtyard near the Champs-Élysées to a two-bedroom beachside apartment in Dubai – offer high-speed internet and comfortable workspaces, in addition to fully-equipped kitchens, living rooms, multiple bedrooms, and en-suite laundry, delivering a great place to spread out and work remotely for extended periods of time.

The survey also concluded that 81 percent of Americans indicate that the look and feel of their accommodations are important to them when considering booking a stay. We want our guests to experience a modern aesthetic with the goal of making sure all of our spaces resonate with those who appreciate architecture and interiors, that’s why we prioritize inspiring design. From the reclaimed wood headboards to the modern art that adorns the walls, we’ve curated eye catching opportunities, or “instagrammable” stays if you will, for our guests to take in when they visit us.

Cleanliness also remains a top priority for American travelers in a post-pandemic world and 50 percent of respondents indicating that they desire no-touch options in their travel spaces. We understand how important these standards are to the experience we offer and we don’t compromise on either so that our guests enjoy their stay worry and stress free. With our no-touch, no-contact model, guests can now request a housekeeping visit from their smartphone; bypassing the traditional, and sometimes chaotic, front desk experience entirely!

With these new insights and the pandemic’s reshaping of the travel industry, we are uniquely prepared to cater to both long-term and short-term travelers. The Sonder team is proud to bring you a line of beautiful spaces ideally located near the places you want to go this summer.
