Seven reasons to visit the Netherlands in spring

To celebrate the launch of Sonder Rose in our newest destination Rotterdam, we’re spending spring in the country of canals, windmills, and world-class art museums. New to the Netherlands? We’ve got all the recommendations you need for a better springtime stay.

1. Tulips, tulips, tulips

Catch a train north of Amsterdam to Beemster to see millions of tulips growing in fields just outside the city. With the Tulip Festival running from March 21 to May 12, April is peak tulip time.

2. Beaches in The Hague

Yes, this is the Netherlands. Known for its major canal network, Holland’s beaches are often overlooked. The Hague has a stunning 11km of North Sea coast on its doorstep – ideal for sandy spring strolls and even watersports.

3. Cycling routes

Quick neighborhood jaunt or intercity adventure? With favorable flat terrain and over 35 thousand kilometers of cycle paths across the country, getting around by bike couldn’t be easier.

4. Did you say cheese?

You haven’t truly experienced a grilled cheese sandwich until you’ve tried one made with a top quality Dutch cheese like Gouda or Edam. Feel free to thank us (or blame us) if this becomes your go-to afternoon snack.

5. King’s Day boat parties

Save the date: April 27. Watch Amsterdam transform into a city-wide festival and a sea of orange. Book your boat now to avoid disappointment.

6. Rainy museum days

When the spring showers hit, there’s no better place than Museumplein, where Amsterdam’s top three art institutions (the Stedelijk, Rijksmuseum, and Van Gogh Museum) are conveniently located. For something a little different, head to photography museum Foam.

7. Trains, trains, trains

The very best part of visiting the Netherlands? Quick train rides mean you can hop from city to city and experience it all. Get from Sonder Park House to Sonder Rose in under 90 minutes, door to door.

Keen to keep exploring? Take a train from Rotterdam to London or Amsterdam to Paris in a little over 3 hours. There’s a whole continent at your fingertips with Sonder.
